A Beginners Guide to Left4Dead

Let’s start with weapon strategies. On the first three maps of each campaign you will start off with tier one weapons the choices of weapons are the Shotgun and Uzi. Sometimes there is a pistol in the starting safe area. Basically you want 2 people with shotguns and 2 people with Uzi’s. Once you find tier two weapons I have experienced that on versus its best to have 2 auto shotguns and 2 m4a1’s. If you’re playing on campaign mode this tactic works just as good but sometimes people pick up the sniper rifle. The key to this weapon is that its bullets can go threw multiple zombies. Only have one person in the group use this weapon at a time because the accuracy of the sniper rifle gets really bad when running away from tanks and if your moving around a lot. The last thing is on campaign mode whatever you have on you when you close the safe room door you will keep with you for the next map as any damage you have taken will not recover. On versus you start off each round with fresh characters and lose all items from the previous round.

Items

The pipe bomb is very useful for dealing with hordes or just clearing out areas full of normal infected. I like to save mine for the “o shit were in trouble” situations that come when there’s a tank or when you get boomed. Also if one of your teammates has been knocked down and they are boomed you can throw one and get the zombies away from the person and safely help up your teammate. The pipe bomb does not attract the special infected like boomer, tanks, witches, hunters, and smokers.

The molotov cocktail is effective at damaging every zombie in the game. Just throw and the ground and any zombie and survivor near the fire will start to burn. Zombies burn till they die or jump in water and the survivors burn for a short amount of time unless the difficulty is set to advanced or expert. Then the duration of damage from the fire is greatly increased. moltovs are very useful to take down tanks once the tank catches on fire he will continue to burn till he dies. While the tank is on fire the aggression meter disappears and the player that is the tank cannot lose control of the tank. In addition when a tank is on fire in campaign mode it will run substantially faster than normal but in versus it will run slower than normal. Also you can use the molotov very effectively when you have to defend an area while you are waiting for a door to open or an elevator to arrive.

Health packs can heal a large chunk of health they usually heal you to about 80 hp or more they heal for less depending on how much health you have. The higher your health is the fewer hit points you heal when you use a health pack. If your screen goes black and white use a health pack and you will be returned to normal.

Pain pills are useful when you are low on hit points and moving slow. Take a bottle of these and you’ll be running like normal right away but the effects only last so long and will be represented by little ticks of health on your health bar. They will slowly decrees over time and then you will have to find a health pack or more pills to keep you alive and moving fast. Beware when using pills because your solid health bar will be depleted before the temporary hit points are when you take damage.
