Hopfully this will be helpful to those of you wanting to setup your own Left4Dead server.

You basically have 2 options.

1) Rent a server through a gameserver provider.

2) Host the server locally (On your computer/server at home)

For renting a server I would recommend GameServers.com. I have used them for many years and they offer great online support, usually have the best prices and offer many server locations.

Hosting your own server is a little bit tougher to set up, but a lot cheaper. A great tutorial can be found HERE.

Once you have you server up and running you'll probably want to install an administrative tool like SourceMod or Beetles Mod I personally like SourceMod. It is very customizable with an array of plugins available for download on their site. If you rent your server, you'll need to ask your provider to install the mod you want (some have auto install buttons) or install them yourself. To install them yourself you'll need to findout your FTP info from your provider, and download an FTP program such as Filezilla. It's good and its free! (I use personally SmartFTP). Then you'll need to upload the appropriate files to your server. Both SM and BM provide great documentation on installing thier respective mods.

And finally, a great program to admin/monitor your server is HLSW. HlSW will allow you to kick, ban, chat, change maps, etc, without being in your server.

I hope this info helps you out :D Please post in the forums if you have any further questions or comments
